Design of key interface in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

  Fuel cell has been developed as clean and efficient power source for generating electricity using fuel and oxygen or air. In Japan, the development of residential scale fuel cell is active because of big support from the government. Also the vehicle application is supported by the government. Big shutle bus will be operated between airport and big city from 2015. For those applications of fuel cells, the polymer membrane fuel cells have been used. In the next step, however, the active development of SOFC device is so important. For this research, we focus on the design of interface between electrolyte and electrode in our device. In our challenge, the interface was characterized by microanalysis methods such as TEM analysis, XAFS and so on. To conclude the interface structural features, we performed atomistic simulation. Based on those results, we try to design the useful interface for our challenge. In my short talk, I will show you our previously reported data in our project and some results in our future challenge. I hope that my short talk will provide us good opportunity for the development of future active international collaboration between both countries.  

  报告人简介 

  Toshiyuki Moriis a Senior Research Scientist at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). He is presently a group leader for the Global Research Centre for Environment and Energy based on Nanomaterials Science as well as a group leader of the Fuel Cell Materials Group within NIMS. He also holds an adjunct position at Center for Microscopy and Microanalysis, University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia) and the University of Hokkaido (Sappro, Japan). Professor Mori has an interesting background in that he spent 11 years in the ceramics industry before joining NIMS. He brings this experience in the corporate sector to his research activities and combines fundamental studies with an eye to applying this knowledge to practical challenges.
